Soul Links in Ori and the Will of the Wisps “didn’t make sense”, says developer - parkerhisevout

Moon Studios' Ori and the Will of the Wisps won't use Soul Links because the developer set up that it "didn't add up" in the sequel (via Stevivor).

"We had Morta Link along [the B button of the Xbox One controller], and we just didn't want to keep a face button for that anymore," said head developer Norman Thomas Gustav Mahler in an interview with Stevivor. "Then that put us into that dilemma of, 'well where come we put it?'" The courageous will draw from Hollow Horse, Metroid, and Rayman to offer an whol-new experience, now that Ori is a fully-fully fledged guardian of Nibel. Eastern Samoa a result, the manual save system using Soul Links is out, and an autosave system using checkpoints is in. It wasn't American Samoa simple as that, though.

"We were planning on using Soul Link, but and so after doing playtests, and after having all the abilities we added in there and the weapons etc., we really matte like, 'let's try to meet it without Soul Link,' and just resort to checkpoints because it felt the like information technology was starting to go too weighted and tangled," explained Mahler. "You perpetually had to cogitate about besides many things at once." And then, playtesting affirmed their hypothesis, and found that players weren't intelligent around Soul Links despite their core character in the original halting. "Nobody missed it, because everybody was just so enthralled with what they'd just played," helium said. "It didn't add up to add it back in."

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is going to offer players a bigger world and a greater dispute than The Blind Forest. Autosaves will assistance new and sunset players progress without losing hours of effort because they'd disregarded to place a Soul Tie-in, and further replayability. Moon Studios is content in its decision to change the system, and with the customisable shards, there will be all kinds of slipway to gambol.
